What we help with

Our tutors cover the full range of coursework a student is likely to bring us, from elementary reading through high school exam preparation.

Math and science

Arithmetic through calculus, plus biology, chemistry, and physics. Homework support and concept review both welcome.

Reading and writing

Reading comprehension, essay structure, revision, and the humanities coursework that depends on them.

General homework help

Whatever a student walks in with. Sometimes the useful thing is not a subject but an hour of focused attention.

SAT and ACT preparation

Content review, pacing strategy, and practice test walkthroughs for students preparing to test.

How it works

We keep the process short on purpose. Most students are matched within a few days of reaching out.

  1. Tell us what you need. Fill out the request form with the subject, the grade level, and whether you would rather meet online or in person.
  2. We match you with a tutor. We pair students with a volunteer whose strengths fit the subject and whose availability fits the schedule.
  3. You meet, as often as helps. Some students come once before an exam. Others meet weekly for a semester. Both are fine.

Online sessions

Held over video call. Useful for students with transportation constraints or full schedules, and the easiest way to start quickly.

In-person sessions

Held at community locations around Morgan Hill. We work with local recreation and community organizations to provide space.

Who we are

Tutorium is run by students, for students.

The program began from a simple observation: the students who most need academic help are often the least likely to ask for it, and paid tutoring puts a price on something that should be freely available. Tutorium exists to remove that barrier entirely.

Our tutors are volunteers, high school and college students who have recently taken the same courses they are helping with. That proximity matters. A tutor who sat for the same exam two years ago tends to remember exactly where the confusion lives.

We are actively recruiting additional volunteer tutors and building partnerships with local community organizations, recreation centers, and school counseling staff to reach students who need support.

Become a tutor

If you are strong in a subject and willing to give an hour a week, we would like to hear from you.

Volunteering with Tutorium is a straightforward commitment: you tell us your subjects and your availability, we match you with a student, and you meet on a schedule that works for both of you. Tutors record their volunteer hours through the program, and we can verify those hours for school or scholarship requirements.

No teaching experience is required. What matters is that you know the material and can be patient with someone who does not yet.
