How the planning help worksHow the tutoring works
Short on purpose. Most students hear back within a few days.
- Send the request form. Subject, grade level, and online or in person. That is all we need to start.
- We match you with a tutor. We pair each student with a volunteer whose subject strengths and schedule actually fit.
- You meet as often as helps. Some students come once before an exam. Others meet weekly all semester. Both are fine, and you can stop whenever you want.

Both of these were written by parents of students we tutor.
Before
When I first reached out about tutoring for my son, he was in second grade and consistently testing below grade level. As much as I tried to work with him at home, I just wasn't getting through to him. Our attempts to practice together often ended in frustration for both of us.
The hardest part was watching his confidence disappear. He was feeling defeated, there were lots of tears, and I could see him starting to shut down. As a parent, it was heartbreaking to watch him struggle and begin to believe that he simply wasn't good at math.
We considered some of the larger, more traditional tutoring programs, but they didn't feel like the right fit for our son. We didn't want another program that placed him in front of a laptop or workbook while sharing a tutor's attention with several other children. We knew he needed personalized, one-on-one support from someone who could meet him where he was, understand how he learns, and help rebuild his confidence.
Now
Since working with Ciana and Leo (his tutors), we have seen such a meaningful change in our son. His comprehension has improved, math concepts are finally starting to click, and his test scores have improved dramatically. He is now approaching grade level and, most importantly, he is no longer continuing to fall behind.
But for us, the biggest change has been his confidence. His teachers have commented that he is participating more in class, and at home we now catch him doing math in his head, something we rarely saw before. Math used to cause him so much frustration and anxiety. When asked by his pediatrician what his favorite subjects in school were, he said: “Math is fun!”
We are incredibly grateful to Ciana and Leo. What stands out to us is how much they genuinely care about the kids they work with. The tutoring feels personal and intentional, not one-size-fits-all. Ciana took the time to understand how our son learns, meet him where he was, and build from there.

It was difficult to find tutors who truly took the time to understand and care about Aiden's individual learning needs. Leo and Abel (his tutors) have been amazing and really connected with him.
Aiden was never excited about learning Spanish, but after working with Abel, he now looks forward to every session. He has also grown to enjoy math more and loves sharing what he learned with Leo.

Why this exists
I started Tutorium because I wanted to tutor and could not find a decent way to do it. I was trying to get hours through a club, connecting with a student who actually needed help turned out to be the hard part, and the only students I ever reached were other Live Oak kids.
Meanwhile Nextdoor was full of private tutors around Morgan Hill charging by the hour. Some families can pay that without thinking about it. Others cannot, and their kids end up behind for a reason that has nothing to do with effort.
